SleepAngel goes even greener with biodgradable filling!
We are thrilled to announce that the microfibre filling from SleepAngel is now biodegradable. So far the microfibre filling has consisted of 100% recycled polyester, which means that there is no virgin fiber in the production at all. Today, the filling is still 100% recycled polyester, but now it is also biodegradable.

While its high durability means it’s built to last, its ability to return to natural elements in marine, wastewater and landfill environments directly combats microplastic pollution.
In tests the fibre has been found to reach a 93.8% biodegradation in 646 days under ASTM D5511 conditions (accelerated landfill environment) and a 80.4% biodegradation in 1071 days under ASTM D6691 conditions (accelerated marine/ocean environment). This means that 100 kg biodegrades into approximately 4 kg of soil in less than two years. Normally this is a process that would take more than 500 years!
Basically the fibres have been made more appetizing to the naturally-occurring microbes in the specific environments. This allows the fibres to return to natural elements: water, CO2, methane, biomass and humus – a common, natural component of potting soil.
